Helmet Pop Commercial
Stop, drop and let the helmet pop!
Type - Commercial
Purpose - To lighten up the situation and broaden the narrative and the PAYDAY universe.
My Role - Director, cinematographer, editor, colourist
Approach - Researching soda commercials from the 90’s and gathering items and products used in real drink commercials. The storyboard was used as a guideline but on set we experimented a lot with the thins we had.
Accomplishment - A moral boost for us as a team and for the community. It got a lot of traction and X amount of people tried to order it. It was also useful for me as it was my first time using a probe lens and recording in slow motion.
April fools is a big thing for us. So this year we wanted to focus on world building in the PAYDAY universe. Slamten is a soda brand in the game and we thought that it was time for them to branch out and make a new soda.
Me and the AD worked closely together on this and the goal was to make a funny video that is inspired by the 90’s soda commercial. So the result became a commercial for both YouTube and TikTok and it led the customer to the Helmet Pop website where you could place an order but unfortunately its out of stock.
Why Helmet Pop?
A trademark of PAYDAY is that when you shoot a cop, the helmet always flies up into the air. Something we always says is “keep those helmets flying”. So making the cap in a shape of a helmet and to open it need to “Pop” it off it's a play on that sentence.
